A French company since 1976
As a French designer and manufacturer of professional lighting fixtures, Sfel relies on its industrial site in Saulgé to oversee the key stages of development and manufacturing for its solutions. The design office, production, assembly, and testing departments work in close collaboration to ensure quality, responsiveness, and technical expertise.
A French manufacturer with a 50-year history
Based in Saulgé, in the Vienne department, SFEL brings together all the expertise needed to develop its lighting fixtures—including design, manufacturing, assembly, and testing facilities—at a single site.
For 50 years, the company has been adapting its expertise to evolving technologies and applications, while preserving the elements that define its identity: a strong industrial culture, close relationships with its customers, and the ability to design solutions tailored to real-world constraints.
The principles that guide us every day
Sustainability, performance, and modularity: three criteria that guide our decisions from the design phase through the entire life cycle of our lighting fixtures.
Sustainability at the heart of our business
We consider every stage of our products’ lifecycle—from design to end of life—to improve product traceability and promote a circular economy approach.
The performance of our products, as tested in-house
Our solutions are developed to meet high quality standards and are validated through internal testing to ensure reliability, durability, and consistent performance.
Modularity for solutions that are increasingly tailored to your needs
Because every project has its own constraints, we design solutions that can adapt to a wide range of uses, environments, and even the most specific technical requirements.
50 years of history, and still the same drive to move forward
Since its founding in 1976, SFEL has evolved in step with technological advances, market trends, and the projects entrusted to it. Its products, manufacturing capabilities, expertise, and teams have transformed over time, while remaining true to the company’s core values.
Sfel® Kicks Off at La Brasserie
In 1976, Serge Flamand and Jean Lajoie decided to start their own company after their previous employer went out of business. They set up SFEL in the buildings of a former brewery in La Brasserie, drawing on their industrial expertise and business connections.
The industrial partner of lighting industry leaders
Sfel® manufactures industrial lighting fixtures as a contract manufacturer for companies such as Claude, Philips, Mazda, Legrand, Eclatec, and others...
Lighting Up Symbolic Locations
Sfel® sells lighting fixtures—entirely manufactured in La Brasserie—for offices, hospitals, and museums in France (the Musée d’Orsay), the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the Ministry of Finance in Paris, the Cube de la Défense, and other locations, as well as abroad.
Acquisition of Sfel® by Guy and Bruno Charnay
Sfel®, which initially operated as a subcontractor for another company, was acquired by Guy and Bruno Charnay, an engineer and a business executive, respectively. They stabilized the company and set it on a path of growth. Over the years, Sfel® has experienced steady and structured growth.
Welcome to Sfel® products!
The new owners of Sfel® have designed their own initial product line: tubular fixtures, ceiling lights, and floor lamps for public spaces. These lighting fixtures, which are both competitively priced and adaptable, demonstrate the strength of custom manufacturing and the agility of the Saulgé plant.
The First LED Products
In 2011, Sfel® began manufacturing LED products in-house for the first time, with executives personally testing the prototypes to ensure quality and performance.
Light fixture tested, light fixture approved.
In 2014, Sfel® expanded its laboratory and testing center with the addition of a goniophotometer, reaffirming its commitment to handling everything in-house, from design to testing.
"Industry 4.0" Factory
In 2019, Sfel® launched the “Factory 4.0” project to modernize its production facilities and optimize production through digitization and automation.
One collaboration follows another
As early as 2005, Sfel® entered into its first partnerships with major players in the French economy—SNCF, RATP, and EDF—leading to the development of custom-designed products. Since then, the LN luminaire has met the needs of RATP, the ZAPI has been tailored to SNCF’s requirements, and in 2025, the Tukore will meet EDF’s specifications.
Goal: ISO Certification
In 2027, Sfel® aims to obtain ISO certification for its facility, thereby strengthening its quality management system, industrial performance, and commitment to international standards.
