In the heart of Toulon (83), the new ESAD building is equipped with SFEL lighting fixtures tailored to the layout of the various spaces. Composed of straight, angled, and slanted light lines, this surface-mounted lighting remains consistently parallel to the floor and ceiling. The SURI SFEL profile—ranging in length from 590 to 1,490 mm—served as the basis for creating custom lighting lines. Continuous lines of substantial lengths (from 1,200 to 28,730 mm) and a wide variety of shapes (I, L, U, V, Z) follow the various contours of the ESAD’s walls and ceilings.
About 100 custom fixtures were manufactured. This design school chose a unique surface-mounted lighting system that blends seamlessly with the building’s surfaces. This aesthetic choice is accentuated by the gray color of the fixtures, which are mounted on the ESAD’s interior facades of exposed concrete.
Product Features
• Installation locations: circulation areas (stairs, landings, hallways, lobbies)
• Options: occupancy sensing; bodies and end caps painted gray (RAL 9 006); aluminum end caps
• Production: 91 different lighting structures, 115 special wall sconces
Key points of the project
• Requirement: Lighting consisting of surface-mounted light lines that follow the contours of walls and ceilings
• Constraint: Ensure excellent continuity of light output with light lines installed at angles and on slopes. Optimize the length of the products relative to the length of the LED modules.
• Solution: Custom-designed light line fixtures with special shapes
Features of the lighting structures
• Custom cutting of luminaire bodies and end caps at a 30° angle for angled light lines.
• Design of mounting plates with openings to connect them together at the corners of the lighting structures.
• Use of laser-cut aluminum end caps, allowing for a perfect connection to luminaire bodies angled at 30°.
• Creation of non-rectilinear shapes (L, U, V, Z) with varying angles, based on precise measurements taken on-site. Connection between two light fixtures using end caps angled at 30° to maintain a shadow-free light line. Here, the light fixtures remain parallel to the floor and stairs.
